Target Partners with East Lake Foundation for Atlanta Community Back-To-School Initiative
About 75 Students from East Lake and their Families Participate in Target Community Initiative Providing School Supplies
On July 14, Target partnered with the East Lake Foundation for the retailer’s annual Back To School initiative, providing school supplies and backpacks to 75 local K-8 students from the East Lake community.
The families shopped at the Edgewood Target at 1275 Caroline Street NE.
With several Target associates, East Lake Foundation’s Norma Nyhoff and Target HR Executive Team Lead Shaloam Grizzle welcomed the families. The students and parents then went to work filling their carts with school supplies and classroom essentials.

At the checkout with gift cards provided by Target, each student also received a special Champion backpack, including a Yoobi notebook with gel pens and snacks.
“Back-to-school season is an important time for students and families, and today is about creating a fun, welcoming shopping experience where students can choose supplies and essentials that prepare them for the upcoming school year,” said Martrel Bankhead, Target Property Management Director and Community Captain. “At Target, we believe strong communities, strong teams and a thriving business go hand in hand.”

Across the country, Target teams are partnering with local organizations in 20 communities this season to support students and families to confidently start a new school year. Together, team members contribute more than one million volunteer hours each year to support the communities where we live and work.
Dr. Jennifer McCrary, director of outreach and engagement for East Lake Foundation, said, “We remain incredibly grateful for our partnership with Target, which ensures that the families in our community have the school supplies, uniforms, backpacks and support needed to start the school year ready to thrive socially, academically and emotionally.”
In 2025 across Metro Atlanta, Target provided more than $6 million in product and cash donations, including 2.3 million pounds of food to local food banks. Store team members have volunteered over 20,500 hours in the community.
