Trump: GA Indictment Has 'No Basis'; Proposes 2026 Trial Date
Ex-President Donald J. Trump is facing four indictments relating to the 2020 presidential election, during which he claimed election fraud.

BEDMINSTER, NJ — In an exclusive interview with Fox Business this week, former President Donald J. Trump said the four indictments against him stemming from the 2020 presidential election have "no basis."
Most recently, Trump was indicted with 18 co-defendants on election interference and racketeering charges Monday in Fulton County. The former president was also indicted in Washington, D.C. and New York.
He sat down with Fox's Larry Kudlow on his show "Kudlow" as he maintained the Georgia probe against him is a "witch hunt." He also claimed he has been suppressed.

"They don't want you to ever talk about an election," Trump told Kudlow. "If you talk about an election, they want to put you in jail."
He advocated for the Republican party to be tough, fighting back against suppression.
"The Republicans are great in many ways, but they don't fight as hard for this, and they have to get a lot tougher," Trump said, "and if they don't, we're not going to have much of a Republican party."

Trump initially planned to host a press conference Monday, saying he would present exoneration documents. However, he has since canceled the news conference at the advice of his attorneys, per his Truth Social posting Thursday.
"Rather than releasing the Report on the Rigged & Stolen Georgia 2020 Presidential Election on Monday, my lawyers would prefer putting this, I believe, Irrefutable & Overwhelming evidence of Election Fraud & Irregularities in formal Legal Filings as we fight to dismiss this disgraceful Indictment by a publicity & campaign finance seeking D.A., who sadly presides over a record breaking Murder & Violent Crime area, Atlanta. Therefore, the News Conference is no longer necessary!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
CNN reported Friday Trump would like the election interference trial in Atlanta to begin in April 2026.
"Among other things, Trump’s team argued that special counsel Jack Smith’s proposed 2024 timeline for the trial would conflict with the other criminal and civil cases in which the former president is a defendant — including the classified documents case brought by Smith, the hush money case in New York and the Georgia election subversion case," CNN reported.

ABC News reported Trump's attorneys are expected to meet with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis sometime next week to negotiate a bond package.
Official arraignment and trial dates have not yet been set though ABC News reported all of the defendants have until noon, April 25, to turn themselves in for processing.
The Fulton County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday the defendants will be booked at the Fulton County Jail.
