Tyler Perry Will Reopen Studios With Temporary Housing For Crews

Tyler Perry says he will reopen his studios offering production crews temporary housing.

ATLANTA, GA — Tyler Perry Studios will reopen, but with some temporary changes due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Atlanta media mogul shared the news Tuesday night. Some of the new changes include temporary housing on the studio campus for production crews and staff.

A resolution will allow them to live in temporary housing at Perry’s studio site at Fort McPherson, reports WSB. This will slow down the back and forth travel to and from the campus.

"A special meeting of the Fort McPherson Board Of Directors was called and a resolution was passed to lease a small portion of the property in order to create temporary housing on the Tyler Perry Studios campus," a spokesperson tells the outlet.

The former Army base has 141 usable barracks, 40 historic homes and 30 newly built homes.

In late April, Perry said he was working on a plan to reopen his studio. He said he would only open the facility if he could implement coronavirus testing for all cast and crew members. To ensure safety of everyone involved, Perry said he plans to have both a doctor and nurse for a hospital building that's on site. It has the ability to be turned into a functional clinic.

Perry had previously said that he wants to work directly with Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms to execute this plan correctly.

Lance Bottoms made a virtual appearance March 27 on the Tamron Hall show where she was asked if she could see Atlanta implementing a similar plan to help businesses get back open.

"It has to be a phased approach," Bottoms said. "I think it's a very different situation. You know, you have a set of people that have not tested positive and they are living in a contained area. And that is something I would want to get input on from our health experts. We know we will have to phase in this economic recovery. I can even see us opening up dental offices, perhaps, and medical offices, in places where people have access to PPE and know the appropriate way to put it on."
