ATLANTA, GA — The City of Atlanta has opened two new warming centers to take care of people in need during the winter storm that has brought freezing temperatures to the area.
The new shelters, which have room for about 300 people, are located at the old Adamsville recreation center, at 3404 Delmar Ln. SW and the Central Park recreation center at 400 Merritts Ave.
The Atlanta Homeless Continuum Of Care program also is working with existing emergency shelters, which are all operating at overflow capacity right now, according to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms' office. It's also coordinating with the Atlanta Police Department, the Atlanta Ambassador Force and other agencies to ensure the city's homeless population knows about available shelters.
