Woman Found By App Was Shot In The Head: Police

Atlanta Police have identified the woman, whose body was found on a trail and whose death has been ruled a homicide.

ATLANTA, GA — A woman whose body was found by her boyfriend using a smartphone app on Wednesday was shot in the head, according to offiicals.

Atlanta Police originally had said the body of Lanecia Nelson, 24, of Atlanta, which was found on a dirt trail off of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, showed signs of having been beaten. But, on Thursday, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office said that she was shot in the head.

The death has been ruled a homicide.

Officers discovered her body, near 3712 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., at about 2:40 a.m. on the trail near Atlanta Heights Charter School. They say her boyfriend had tracked her to that location using an app called "Find My Friends" on his smartphone.

Nelson's family had reported her missing on Tuesday.

After her boyfriend discovered pieces of her clothing on the trail, a team with police dogs was called in and found her.
