Carl Council Members Receive Update on Trash Services
Mayor Dave Brock outlines three projects on the town's SPLOST wish list.

With no regular business on the agenda, the looked briefly at trash services.
Council members voted in January to adopt an ordinance that turned over fees for trash services to residents, who are now paying $14.50 per month for trash collection and recycling.
The first bills went out the third week in January and only $231.50 was collected by the end of the month toward a total bill of $1,032.

“People are starting to pay now that they’re getting used to it,” town clerk Deana Davis said.
Residents should receive their bills the first of the month and payment is due by the 15th. Bills can be paid at the , which is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. No late fees are currently being assessed but will start up in April.

Residents who pay their bills quarterly will receive a $1 discount each month.
Davis said 11 residents had opted out of trash services since the town stopped footing the bill.
SPLOST wish list
Mayor Dave Brock recently joined other Barrow city officials and county representatives to discuss SPLOST projects. The town of Carl has three items on its wish list that it would like to see move forward:
- The widening of a turn lane on Bankhead Highway traveling onto Carl Cedar Hill Road to accommodate an anticipated increase in truck traffic due to a plastics company — Schuetz Container Systems — moving in nearby
- Completion of the overlay on Carl-Midway Church Road
- Plans put in place for the Great Rail Trail, a multijurisdictional project for Ga. Highway 8 that includes plans for beautification and a bike trail from Dacula to Statham
Brock said Gwinnett and Barrow counties, Dacula, Auburn, Winder and Statham were all on board for the Great Rail Trail.
