Like you, I've been studying up and learning about all of the candidates in the Winder City Council At Large race. In a previous post, I shared some of the things I had learned about Bob Dixon. This post will shed a little light on the other opponent, Lorin Sinn-Clark.

It is true, my opponents have lived in Winder for a very long time. They know a lot of people and have their own reputations. Lorin is working very diligently on her campaign and treating it like a full time job. Thirteen years ago, in 2000, Ms. Sinn-Clark ran for County Commission, so she has experience running a campaign. She was unsuccessful in that election, and hasn't run for anything again until this race. She is adamant about getting Bob Dixon out of office. If that happens, though, we don't know a lot about how she would behave while working on the Council, or what she would do. What we do know is what she writes on her blog, and what she has written during her time with the Barrow Journal.

During her time with the Barrow Journal we have all gotten to read about Lorin's life in a variety of ways. In an article she just wrote and published in August of this year, she said, "I fit in better in the West, too. People are ‘odder’ there – more plain spoken, easier to understand, more prone to nonconformity in habits and in dress. I’ve never really taken to the South and 23 years into the experiment, it’s probably safe to say I never will."

In another article, entitled “Why Do We Throw Biscuits at Fat People?” (August, 2011), Lorin described an interaction she had with a drive-through attendant because Lorin was angry at the fact that the attendant wanted to give her a biscuit (Bojangles policy) with her meal. She said to the attendant, "My point is, America is fat; people in Georgia are fat; and, Winder is full of fat people.” Lorin then explained her behavior by saying, “Whew! Nothing feels quite as good as a nice, three-quarters crazy rant!” (http://www.barrowjournal.com/archives/5591-SINN-CLARK-Why-do-we-throw-biscuits-at-fat-people.html)

Do you want someone who feels like she can't fit in, and who needs people to be "more plain spoken and easier to understand" to speak on your behalf at a City Council meeting?  I'm wondering if she could hold her own in a Council debate.

Also, if she can be so easily driven to a “three-quarters crazy rant” over a biscuit, what will happen if a true crisis arose while Lorin is seated on the Council?!

I feel bad for the drive-through employee.  That person was just trying to make a living, just doing their job, and they can't change the policy anyway. Finally, the weight of any of the citizens of Winder is not the business or priority of any Council member.

Citizens of Winder-please, do your own research, and make your own decision. I can bring energy and vitality to the Council, along with problem solving skills, vision, and an ability to think outside of the box. I am quite different from the other candidates in this election. Show up to the Winder Community Center and vote Nicole Tobias for Winder City Council on November 5 to have your voice heard and to send the message that some things need to improve in Winder!
