More Than a Dozen Barrow Road Projects Make Preliminary T-SPLOST List

Thirteen local projects are part of a proposed list of road projects across the state that, if approved, will be completed under the Transportation Investment Act of 2010.

Thirteen local projects are part of a proposed list of road projects across the state that, if approved, will be completed under the Transportation Investment Act of 2010 over the next 10 years.

The list will be finalized Oct. 15, and the additional one percent sales tax to generate revenue for the projects will come before voters in summer 2012.

Over the next five days, Barrow Patch will highlight each of the 13 local projects, providing project details, information on costs and maps.

These are the first two Barrow projects on the list.

  • Project name: Atlanta Highway, county road No. 414/415 — off system (from SR 8/53 to the Oconee County line)
  • Details: This proposed project would include milling and patching, resurfacing and pavement markings for 7.7 miles of roadway on Atlanta Highway.
  • Total project costs: $1,500,000 to be funded by the Transportation Investment Act of 2010
  • Benefits: On average, 10,000 cars travel Atlanta Highway daily. The resurfacing will provide a smoother and safer surface for travel by preventing pavement deterioration, such as potholes. This project will also extend the pavement life of the roadway. This project could also mitigate congestion. 
  • Project name: Create interchange at SR 316/US 29 @ SR 11
  • Details: This project would create an interchange along Ga. Highway 316 at U.S. Highway 29 and Ga. Highway 11.
  • Total project costs: $18,789,956, with $9,000,000 funded by the TIA
  • Benefits: This project would potentially reduce the higher than average crash rates in this area and alleviate congestion. On average, 29,000 cars travel this section of Ga. Highway 316 daily, with almost 16,000 vehicles traveling Ga. Highway 11.
