Coach's comments

Mike Cavey, head coach for Apalachee's baseball team
“We hit the ball really well against Berkmar and Ryan Shorter pitched five great innings of baseball. Steven Adair went 4-4 with a homerun and Clint Ashe also had a homerun. We did not play very well against Central and gave them three unearned runs. We could only muster four hits and we walked way too many hitters. If we are to be successful, then we need to play with more consistency. We have the talent, we just have to put it all together.”

Scott Bates, head coach for Apalachee's girls soccer team
"We now sit 4-2 on the season, with a heavy dose of region games to come. We have to continue to play better to compete with the top teams in the region, which I believe we are more than capable of doing."

Ben Arms, head coach for Winder-Barrow's girls soccer team
"The Ladydoggs varsity soccer team defeated seventh ranked Heritage 2-0 ... for their second region win. Georgia Stepp scored the winning goal on header from a corner kick by Ashley Hagenbaugh. Clara Tapplin added an insurance goal with a 30-yard strike into the net. Jessica Maynard had seven saves in goal. BreAnna Steed and Lisa Doolittle played excellent defense to preserve the win. This was a great win for us as Heritage was expected to win the region this year. It really shows that the girls can compete with and win against such high powered teams."

Dan Woschitz, head coach for Apalachee's boys tennis team
"(Against Habersham Central,) The No. 2 doubles team of Aaron Brown and Lee Vue clinched the match with a three set victory (6-3, 1-6, 6-4) and remain undefeated on the season at 3-0. Also remaining undefeated on the season are the No. 1 doubles team, Jamie Heglund and Brandon Tovar, with a straight set victory, 6-2, 6-0. Michael Duchense won in straight sets with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles. Alex Soubannarath at No. 1 and James Alexander at No. 3 singles lost in tough and controversial three set matches. Soubannarath lost 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 5-7 and Alexander lost 6-4, 4-6, 4-6. ... (On March 1) Winder-Barrow jumped out to an early lead as they won each of the first four sets in the match. The Wildcats, in only their second match of the season, bounced back in the doubles matches by winning the second sets to force the tiebreaking third sets. The No. 2 doubles team of Aaron Brown and Lee Vue came back to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.  The No. 1 doubles team of Brandon Tovar and Ryan Tanner lost in the thrid set 1-6, 6-3, 3-6.  Jamie Heglund lost a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles 2-6, 2-6, while Alex Soubannarath lost 3-6, 3-6 at No. 2 singles.  At No. 3 singles, Micheal Duchesne lost 3-6, 6-7 (5) in the closest match of the day."

Ryan McDeermond, head coach for Apalachee’s girls tennis team
"In both matches (this past week), we were the home team. Our No. 1 doubles team continues to improve and they are actually 3-0 right now. We are still having trouble in singles play but are working hard to get better at those positions. We need to focus on hitting against someone who hits with a lot of pace. We do a good job of staying into a point but need to improve on putting an opponent away when we have them on the run. This will basically just require more confidence and more practice."

Derek Hon, head coach for Winder-Barrow's boys tennis team
"The boys' tennis team had another great week last week. We defeated two region opponents, Apalachee and Clarke Central, both 4-1. All of the players continue to get better and progress, and we'll need to play our best this week against Flowery Branch, Dacula and Habersham."
