A Winder City Council member has announced plans to challenge Mayor Chip Thompson for his office this November.

David Maynard, who was elected to the council in 2008 to an at-large seat, announced his plans Monday, Aug. 22.

The reports that Maynard broke the news to Thompson in a phone call.
