Winder Planning Board Accepts Rezone Requests

Members of the Winder Planning Board voted to approve a rezoning request and recommend approval to the Winder City Council for two additional requests during Tuesday night’s business meeting.

1. The board voted unanimously to recommend to the city council the approval of an annexation and rezoning request made by Howard Plymale concerning property at 286 E. Wright St. and 500 Embassy Walk. The property is currently zoned for agricultural use. The request is for a change to multi-family residential use to allow for the construction of multi-family units on the premises. City Planning Director Barry Edgar said he does not anticipate any concerns from the county regarding the request. The city council will vote on the matter during a scheduled business meeting Oct. 4.
2. The board voted unanimously to approve a rezone request by David Collier regarding a property at 41 W. Candler St. The location was zoned general commercial and is now a single family dwelling.
3. The board voted unanimously to recommend approval to the Winder City Council for a conditional use request by Mitch King for his property at 85 Church St. The building is currently zoned neighborhood commercial. The request is to allow a single-family dwelling in addition to its current zone status. Board member Jim Neu was selected to represent the zoning board concerning the request at the city council meeting Oct. 4.

The Winder Planning board will meet again at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Winder Community Center.
