According to WSB-TV, Morris Brandon Elementary School’s third graders were scheduled to visit the museum on Monday, but Atlanta Public Schools nixed the trip, claiming the young students were not emotionally mature enough to handle the experience.

The school’s fifth grade classes will continue to visit the museum, but parents of the third grade class told WSB-TV that they believe the school system is missing out on an important opportunity to educate today’s youth about the struggles of past generations.

Instead of the museum visit, third grade students will attend a Tuesday performance of “Visit With Thurgood Marshall,” WSB-TV said.
