How to Care Best for Your Pet this Thanksgiving

While we're enjoying the turkey and a table dressed to the nines, make sure your pet is being treated just as special this Thanksgiving.

The days are passing quickly, a chill air is moving in, and the leaves have turned their autumnal hues of deep orange and red. We’re outside more, homeless, and looking forward to the coming holidays. Thanksgiving can be a lot of American’s favorite holidays. But while we’re enjoying the turkey and a table dressed to the nines, make sure your pet is being treated just as special this Thanksgiving.

We’ve scoured the internet (and a few textbooks) to make sure we communicate and share the best ways to care for your pet this Thanksgiving season. At Deceased Pet Care, we love your pets and want the best for them. So without any more waiting… let’s talk turkey.

Create Comfort
Thanksgiving is filled with so much more than the usual. And it usually involves a ton of traveling. If you and your pet are travelling this Thanksgiving, make sure you provide them a little extra comfort. Travel can be stressful, and the fear of the unknown can affect your pet’s behavior. We suggest bringing along his favorite toy, or a couple extra snacks to make sure she knows you’re here with her on this journey.

Keep it Quiet
If you’re not travelling this Thanksgiving, chances are, someone is coming to you. With all the extra family and friends hanging around, things can get noisy. Give your pet a quiet place to get away from the craziness. Pick a place and show it to your pet several days before everyone arrives. That way, if she gets stressed, she’ll know just where to go.

Trim the Turkey
If you’re like us, you like to shower your pets with gifts and treats as much as we do. After all, they’re practically family. With all the extra food your pet might be tempted to grab a bite of the Thanksgiving fare. Keep a keen eye and make sure they’re not snagging any undesirables. Prepare a small container of lean, skinless, boneless turkey to treat them every now and then. It’s low in fat and high in protein. There’s a reason American’s have made it an annual tradition.

Avoid the Unknown
Thanksgiving is filled with a smorgasbord of succulent fare. But what is delicious to us humans, can be deadly to your pet. Make sure to check with your local veterinarian, or research online, before giving anything out of the ordinary to your poochy pal.

Create a Learning Space
In an effort to always improve, use the extra goodies around your house (that are pet-friendly) as positive reinforcement when training your pet. There’s nothing like an extra bite of lean turkey, or that loving tussle from a distant cousin to should your favorite new pet they’re doing a great job.

So there you have it! At Deceased Pet Care we love your pets, and we know you do too. Follow our tips and show those special companions just how much you love and care for them this Thanksgiving season. Do you have a favorite way to care for your pet during the holidays?
