Large Sinkhole Means West Wieuca Road Closed This Week
The company which originally caused the two sinkholes plaguing the road will pay for repairs, though it's not clear when they will be done.

The sinkhole which opened on West Wieuca Road last month and re-opened on Sept. 12 is so big that authorities have shut down the road for the next seven to ten days to allow crews to properly repair the damage.
According to Buckhead Neighbor, a utility company was boring a path through the earth for cabling along West Wiecua Road between Dudley Lane and Lake Forrest Drive in August. The utility company filled in the bore, but the ground beneath the section of road collapsed on Aug. 11 due to heavy rains, causing the first sinkhole.
The utility company returned to the site a second time to fill in the sinkhole, but the new repair buckled under more heavy rains on Sept. 12. Now, outside contractors will be permanently fixing the sinkhole at the utility company’s expense.

The contractor will use no-flow fill to plug the hole, which was described by District 8 Atlanta City Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean as being big enough to swallow up a small car.
Although West Wieuca Road has been slated to re-open in approximately ten days, it’s not clear how long it will take to get the sinkhole repaired permanently.
