10 Arrested After 2 Gwinnett Shootings: Police

Multiple people were arrested on suspicion of street gang and aggravated assault charges, Gwinnett Police said.

BUFORD, GA — Two shootings led to 73 felony arrest warrants and the arrests of several people accused of being gang members, Gwinnett Police said Tuesday.

The first shooting occurred on Aug. 21 at Brookdale Drive in Buford, during which multiple homes were shot at, police said. The shooting was connected to a gang-related dispute that was linked to a past shooting at Circle View Drive, police said.

Two of the 10 people arrested were Khamani Semaj Rhodes, 18, of Sugar Hill, and Willie Taylor, 19, of Buford, police said. Rhodes lived at one of the homes that was shot at near Brookdale Drive, police said.

Rhodes and Taylor are accused of shooting from their car into another car driving by them after seeing someone Rhodes thought was responsible for the shooting at his home, police said.

It is not known when or where exactly the second shooting took place.

Six arrests were made in connection to the two shootings, police said. Other people were arrested in connection with other crimes, police said.

According to Gwinnett Police, the following people were arrested:

  • Khamani Rhodes, 18, of Sugar Hill, on suspicion of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, being a party to a crime, several drug charges and several criminal street gang charges.
  • Willie Taylor, 19, of Buford, on suspicion of possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, several drug related charges, several criminal street gang charges.
  • Kaivon Swift, 17, of Buford, on suspicion of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and obstruction of law enforcement
  • Derrick Ashley, 18, of Buford, on suspicion of aggravated assault, criminal damage to property, obstruction of law enforcement and disorderly conduct
  • Hunter Haifley, 18, Buford, on suspicion of aggravated assault
  • Sebastian Edouard, 20, Buford, on suspicion of aggravated assault and criminal street gang charges
  • Aykm Laroche, 19, Buford, on suspicion of aggravated assault
  • Juvenile, 16, of Buford, on suspicion of criminal attempt armed robbery
  • Juvenile, 16, Buford, on suspicion of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, being a party to a crime, several drug charges and several criminal street gang charges.
  • Juvenile, 16, Buford, on suspicion of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, being a party to a crime, several drug charges and several criminal street gang charges

"The Gwinnett Police Department’s priority is the safety of its residents. Gang violence in our community will not be tolerated, nor will any activity that threatens the quality of life of our residents. Gun violence or any violence that harms the safety of our citizens and visitors are unacceptable. Anyone who participates in acts of violence will be arrested, charged, prosecuted and held accountable for their actions. Any acts of violence will be investigated and fully prosecuted in Gwinnett County," police said in a news release.
