$19K in Copper Stolen from Work Site Near Mall of GA

Burglars made off with a large haul of copper from the work site at an under-construction Mall of Georgia-area car dealership.

A foreman with Presley Electrical of Palmetto, Ga., told police his company has been working on the new Mini Cooper dealership on Buford Drive and discovered dozens of spools of copper wire had been stolen between 5 p.m. March 15 and 6:40 a.m. March 16.

The total value of the stolen copper is $19,000, according to a Gwinnett Police incident report.

Stolen were eight spools of thick gauge valued at $500 each ($4,000 total) and 30 spools of thin copper wire, also valued at $500 each ($15,000 total).

The foreman told police the wire was needed in the company’s project at the new business. The wire was locked in a storage room inside the building. The lock was pried open, according to the police report.
