5 Injured In Lake Lanier Boating Explosion

A person fell into the water after a boat caught fire at Lake Lanier and injured five people, Georgia authorities say.

BUFORD, GA — Five people were injured in a boat fire Saturday night at Lake Lanier in Buford, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. in Land Shark Cove. Authorities said they saw paramedics treating several people for non-life-threatening injuries.

Preceding the fire, authorities said a hull blower was not activated before starting the boat.

A flash explosion then sparked inside the boat's hull, and a person fell into the water, authorities said. Witnesses were able to recover the person, authorities added.

Five people were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, authorities said.
