Alert: Traffic Shift on Highway 20 Scheduled For Thursday Evening
Motorists should expect delays in the area as workers wrap up work widening the highway to four lanes, officials say.

SUGAR HILL, GA — Gwinnett County drivers on State Route 20 will experience some delays Thursday, as workers shift traffic on the busy highway.
Gwinnett County Department of Transportation crews will be continuing to widen the state highway's last two-lane section in the county.
The lane shift is scheduled for between 8 p.m. and midnight on Thursday and will impact about three miles of roadway.

The shift will occur between Suwanee Dam Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, allowing crews to wrap up work on the two new lanes of the project in that stretch.
Flaggers will be in the area to help guide traffic as needed.

"I’m pleased to see these traffic shifts occurring because it means this important project is getting closer to completion," said county commissioner Jace Brooks.
Access to the Chattahoochee River bridge will be maintained at all times as Georgia DOT contractors work on a separate project to widen across the river into Forsyth County.
Gwinnett County worked with the Georgia DOT to complete the engineering on both projects.
Federal, state and local dollars were used to fund these projects. Just across the river, Forsyth County is partnering with the state to widen from James Burgess Road to Samples Road.
"Additional traffic shifts will be required before all the lanes can open to traffic," said Gwinnett Department of Transportation director Alan Chapman.
Another traffic shift is expected in early September.
Construction on Gwinnett’s section of the project is expected to be complete by early next year, according to Chapman. The Georgia DOT section is to be complete by mid-2017.
