BUFORD, GA – Alino Pizzeria at Mall of Georgia caught fire Friday and had smoke coming from the roof, according to Gwinnett Fire Department. There were no injuries reported.
Firefighters responded at 12:41 p.m., to find visible smoke from the roof and the restaurant evacuated. Further recon revealed an active fire in the ventilation pipe connected to a pizza oven. Firefighters deployed ladders on the building over the restaurant and deployed a dry-chemical extinguisher and one fire attack hose line to extinguish the fire. Additional crews evacuated the adjoining businesses and checked for further extension. The fire was successfully contained to the vent system and no extension was found. The blaze caused moderate damage to the vent chase and melted the exhaust motor on the roof.
The Loft, Mall of Georgia Rugs, Chico’s and Lizard Thicket were temporarily evacuated until the situation was brought under control. Patrons were allowed to return to the building within the hour.
