Gwinnett celebrates the arts with the second annual Artworks! Gwinnett Fusion Awards.
What better way to finish awards season than with our very own awards ceremony, Artworks! Gwinnett’s Fusion awards! The Fusion Awards highlights the artistic achievements of Gwinnett County by bringing together artists, arts organizations and philanthropists to celebrate the blossoming Gwinnett art community. Nominees included well known organizations such as Aurora Theatre, Gwinnett Public Libraries, Hudgens Center for the Arts and New Dawn Theater with some promising new comers in the mix such as Zephyr Instrumental, Live Arts Theatre and the Tannery Row Artist Colony.
The evening began with dinner in the upstairs ballroom of the new Buford Community Center and Theatre. The Buford Community Center is Buford’s ambitious new presenting house that has produced hugely successful plays in its first two seasons such as Narnia, The Musical and the OTC Comedy Troupe. The Fusion Awards were beautifully framed by the Buford Community Center’s marble floors and wood paneling. The evening’s partnership of BCC and Artworks! Gwinnett was a perfect blending of creativity and beauty.
With bellies full of heavenly food, the arts patrons continued into the Silvia Beard Theatre for the awards ceremony. The ceremony opened with a hip hop number from the Royal Dance Academy and a special recognition from Dan King and Caryn McGarity, Artworks! Gwinnett Co-chairs. Other great performances included works by Zephyr Instrumental, Advocate Arts, Herman Pennamon and Aurora Theatre.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation to Sally Corbett. Sally was the former Executive Director of Artworks! Gwinnett and made great strides in one year for the Gwinnett art’s community. In the first year of Artworks! Gwinnett, Sally managed to start the annual Fusion Awards, begin an artist focused lecture series and organized the Gwinnett Education Summit. While Sally will be greatly missed, arts organizations are excited for the next phase of Artworks! Gwinnett.
