Human Skull, Bones Found In Suitcase

BUFORD, GA — A human skull and other bones were found Friday in a suitcase along Interstate 985 in Gwinnett County, police said.

The call came in to police at about 11 a.m. from a Department of Transportation construction worker who was working on a section of the interstate just north of Buford Drive, where Interstate 85 and Interstate 985 split.

According to police, one of the workers had gone about 80 yards into the woods to relieve himself when he found the suitcase.

The worker then came out of the woods and told his supervisor.

Police say the suitcase appears to have been in the woods "for an extended period of time."

Homicide detectives and the Gwinnett medical examiner's office were working the scene Friday, but there had been no identification of the remains.

Police say they will research missing person cases in the county and contact other agencies to try to link the bones to a specific person.
