Family of 5 Displaced by Early Morning Fire
The fire was reported around 3 a.m. in nearby Sugar Hill.

A family of five was awaken by smoke detectors and escaped a damaging early morning fire near Sugar Hill Wednesday.

Firefighters worked a fire shortly after 3 a.m. at 6049 Grand Loop Road that apparently started in the garage, Gwinnett Fire reported in an emailed news release.
No injuries were reported.

Gwinnett Fire Lt. Jerrod Barrett said a man, woman and three teenagers (two boys, one girl), and a dog evacuated the residence.
When firefighters arrived around 3:21 a.m., they found heavy fire conditions in the garage extending up to the second floor
“First engine on scene deployed attack lines to extinguish the flames; however the flames were so intense they had to use the large hose line from the Ladder truck,” Barrett said. “The home did suffer significant fire, smoke and water damage.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
