The man's body was found just outside the home's back door. He had obvious injuries due to the fire as well as a gunshot wound, fire officials said.

Investigators were able to get permission to search the home from the victim's wife.

They said Tuesday they are investigating the possibility that the man shot himself. A weapon was found in the debris close to the back door.

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s office has possession of the body and will complete a positive identification and cause of death determination. The name will be released by the medical examiner when available and based on notification of next of kin.

The blaze caused a total loss to the house and heavily damaged a pickup truck that was parked inside the garage. Radiant heat from the burning home also melted the exterior vinyl siding on two neighboring houses, but did not extend inside the main living areas.
