Major Development Near Mall of Georgia Approved By Commissioners
The development would include a high-rise hotel, an office complex, housing and retail spaces.
BUFORD, GA — A massive, mixed-use development near the Mall of Georgia has been approved by Gwinnett County commissioners.
The 16-acre plan, by developers Ivy Creek Partners, was approved in a 3-0 vote by the commission on Tuesday.
The development, at the corner of Mall of Georgia Boulevard and Woodward Crossing Boulevard, would include a high-rise, 250-room hotel, 541 single-family apartments, 42 condominiums, 169,739 square feet of retail space and 76,000 square feet of office space.

Because of its scope, it had to have approval from state and regional planning boards as well as local officials. Both the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority have signed off on the plan.
The version of the plan that was approved includes more apartments than one that Gwinnett's planning commission signed off on earlier this month.

That was a concern for commissioners, who stipulated in their vote that 541 was the absolute limit on apartments and that no more than 8 percent of them can be three-bedroom units.
