No More Saturday Mail As USPS Looks to Cut Costs

The end of Saturday mail delivery would reportedly save the agency about $2 billion annually.

Over the past several years, the Postal Service has advocated shifting to a five-day delivery schedule for mail and packages. Now it looks as if that may be happening.

According to an ABC News report, the United States Postal Service is expected to announce Feb. 6 that it will end Saturday mail delivery in August 2013, but will continue to make Saturday package deliveries. The plan would save the agency about $2 billion annually, the report says.

Also, delivery to post office boxes would continue on Saturdays and post offices now open on Saturdays would remain open on Saturdays.
