Police Seeking Man Who Hid in Woman's Car

BUFORD, GA -- Gwinnett County Police are looking for a man who was caught hiding in the backseat of a woman's car outside the TJ Maxx in Buford.

Police say the woman went into the store at about 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday and returned to her vehicle at about 6 p.m.

She put some shopping items in the cargo area then got into her driver's seat. That's when police say she looked in her rearview mirror and saw an unknown man looking at her from the backseat.

The man was crouched down behind the front passenger seat, a police news release said.

The victim began to yell for someone to call 911. The man got out of her car and got into the vehicle beside her -- a grey or silver passenger car -- and drove off.

The victim told police she left her sunroof open and that the man may have crawled into her car that way. The car doors were locked.

The victim and witnesses were able to get a tag number of the man's car and police were working to identify the man.

He is described only as a white male, likely in his early 20s, with short dark hair wearing a t-shirt and shorts.

Police say that the man's motive for getting into the woman's car remains unknown.
