Scammers Used Fake Movie Money at Walmart: Police

The pair passed off $1,000 worth of bills marked with the words "For Motion Picture Use Only."

BUFORD, GA — Police are looking for a pair of scam artists who used fake money from a movie to make a large purchase at a Georgia Walmart.

The incident happened at the Walmart at 3250 Sardis Church Road in Buford, according to Gwinnett County Police.

The pair used the money, which is marked with the words "For Motion Picture Use Only," between 3-4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, to buy $1,000 worth of lawn equipment, police say.

Later that day, a woman returned one of the items at another Walmart for cash.

The cashier who accepted the bills quit her job shortly after the incident, police say.

The suspects are described as a black male, wearing a pink shirt, khaki shorts a white Chicago Bulls hat and white sneakers, and a white female, wearing a black shirt and pants as well as eyeglasses, with tattoos on both arms and her chest.

They are believed to have left in a red, four-door hatchback, possibly a Ford Focus or Kia Forte.

In recent years, Georgia has become a hotbed for movie productions.

More than 240 movies and TV productions were shot in Georgia during the state's last fiscal year, with an economic impact on the state of roughly $7 billion, the governor's office reported.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Gwinnett County Police detectives at 770-513-5300.
