Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident, which occurred around 10 a.m. July 30 in front of Creekview High School at 1550 Owens Store Road in unincorporated Canton.
Initial reports indicate an Infiniti passenger driven by 21-year-old Canton resident Stephanie Smith was hit on its driver’s side by a Nissan SUV driven by Jennifer Ford, 27, of Canton, said sheriff’s office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

Smith, along with her 14-year-old brother who was in the car with her, were both transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Ford had her eight-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter in the SUV with her at the time of the crash, Baker stated. The son was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Baker said Smith was cited for failure to yield while making a left turn. Owens Store Road was shut down for a brief time.
“The accident caused extensive delays, as it coincided with open house at both Creekland Middle School and Creekview High School,” he added.
The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 3.
