2nd Annual Cherokee Career Expo Returns March 24

CANTON, GA -- In 2015, nearly 1,000 job seekers attended the inaugural Cherokee Career Expo.

Scores of Cherokee’s largest employers were on-hand, looking to fill more than 600 positions.

After last year's impressive success, the Cherokee Office of Economic Development knew that this event needed to continue, a notion that was reinforced by the Opportunity Cherokee strategic planning process that took place throughout last year.

So, on Thursday, March 24, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Labor, COED will hosts the Second Annual Cherokee Career Expo.

The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center, located at 1130 Bluffs Parkway in Canton.

Employers such as Northside Hospital, Inalfa Roof Systems, Chart Industries, Piolax and Financial Asset Management Systems Inc. will be participating, looking to fill hundreds of job openings.

The aerospace, automotive, and healthcare industries, among others will be represented at the event. A list of all registered recruiting companies can be found on the COED website.

A wide range of positions will be represented including engineering, marketing, project management, finance, forklift operators, production operators, quoting technicians, quality assurance and much more.

“Cherokee is full of skilled people who would love to work in their home community,” said Marshall Day, COED chairman. “This event is just one step in keeping our local talent local and eliminating the commute that the vast majority of our residents endure every day.”

A Regional Snapshot released by the Atlanta Regional Commission projects Cherokee County will lead the metro region in job growth through 2040.

COED continues its work of recruiting new businesses that will provide fresh employment opportunities, but they also understand the value in supporting Cherokee’s existing industries as they grow.

“Nearly 75 percent of job growth comes from existing industry,” said Misti Martin, COED president. “Creating an environment in Cherokee where existing companies can thrive is crucial in job creation, it goes hand-in-hand.”

COED encourages residents to attend the expo, even if they are not currently looking for a new career, as the event is a great opportunity to see what is available in their home county.

If someone is looking for a job, this is a chance to speak one-on-one with local employers. COED anticipates a similar turn-out as last year. Career advisors will be onsite to assist job seekers with their resumes, and attendees who wish to take advantage of this service are asked to bring an electronic version of their resume to the event.

“We are excited to be able to provide this service for our industries and for our community,” Day added.
