Ahrens, New Commissioners Will Take Oath of Office Next Week

The ceremony to swear in Cherokee Commission Chair Buzz Ahrens and Commissioners-elect Scott Gordon and Steve West will be held Dec. 17.

Two new faces will soon join the Cherokee County Commission, and another will be returning for four more years of public service.

Cherokee County Commission Chair Buzz Ahrens and Commissioners-elect Scott Gordon of District 4 and Steve West of District 1 will all be sworn into office next week in Canton. The ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 on the lower level of the county administration building.

Ahrens won re-election to a third term in the Nov. 4 general election, easily defeating challenger Carolyn Cosby. Gordon defeated opponent Larry Singleton in the July Republican primary runoff.

West also won the District 1 Commission race, ousting incumbent Harry Johnston during the May primary.

District 4 represents Woodstock, Towne Lake and southwest Cherokee County while District 1 encompasses Canton and northern Cherokee.
