Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- As of yesterday, new stop signs are in effect at the intersection of Archer and Academy Streets. The new signs, installed on each side of Academy Street, have created a four-way stop to improve traffic flow and safety. Residents are encouraged to use continued caution at the intersection. - Kick off Independence Day with the City of Canton on Saturday, Jul. 2! The festivities begin with a 4:00 p.m. downtown parade, which will be presented by the American Legion Post 45. Fireworks will follow at dusk — stop along Riverstone Parkway or at Etowah River Park for the best possible views. (City of Canton via Facebook)
- On Friday afternoon, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a collision in which a waste management truck landed on its side atop another truck. According to Battalion Chief Ricky Collett, the waste management truck flipped over while turning onto East Cherokee Drive. - The average price of gas in Cherokee County is currently $4.53 per gallon, among the highest in Georgia. Average gas prices across the state have also increased by 21 cents since last week — and up by $1.57 from this time last year.
