Autopsy Complete On Inmate Found Dead At Jail

CANTON, GA -- It could be a few more weeks before the cause of death of a Cherokee County inmate is released to the public.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Nelly Miles said while the autopsy for 52-year-old Deloris Ashcraft has been completed, the results of that examination has not been released "pending the completion of additional forensic testing."
The GBI is investigating the death of Ashcraft, whose body was found around 1:15 a.m. April 17 at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office previously told Patch.

Sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker noted Ashcraft had been at the facility since April 6 when she was arrested by deputies on simple battery (FVA), possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana charges.
A funeral service for Ashcraft, also known as "Dee Dee," will be held on Saturday, April 23 at Caldwell Park at Acworth Beach, according to an obituary posted by Darby Funeral Home.
Ashcraft is survived by a son, Jack Ashcraft of Florida; daughter, Chassidy Moorman of Acworth; brothers, Donald Moorman of Kentucky, Carl Moorman of Minnesota, Richard Moorman of Minnesota and Ralph Moorman of Indiana; sisters, Leona Moorman of Indiana, Jill Boulanger of Florida and Patricia Moorman of Indiana; and four grandchildren.
