The Committee was created in response to Senate Resolution 605, a measure that seeks to utilize the state taxation of casino gaming and pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing to supplement the funding for the HOPE Scholarship and Georgia Pre-K programs.

The study committee will also work to study the social and economic issues pertaining to those activities. The committee will be composed of seven members of the Senate and must report its findings on or before December 1, 2015.

“I’m proud to appoint Sen. Brandon Beach to the Senate Preservation of the HOPE Scholarship Program Study Committee and look forward to thoroughly evaluating their findings. Sen. Beach has been a leader on these issues, and I’m thankful he’s lending his time and expertise to the important work this committee will perform,” Cagle added.
