Canton, GA — The Cherokee County Republican Women will host its final candidate forum of the 2026 primary election season on Tuesday, April 14, at the Historic Cherokee County Courthouse in downtown Canton.

This highly anticipated evening will feature two important races and provide voters with the opportunity to hear directly from candidates ahead of the upcoming election.

🕕 State House District 20 Forum: 6:00 PM
🕖 Georgia Secretary of State Forum: Approximately 7:00 PM

State House District 20 (6:00 PM):

  • Charlise Byrd (Incumbent)
  • Mark Fernandez

Georgia Secretary of State (Approx. 7:00 PM):

  • Gabriel Sterling
  • Ted Metz
  • Vernon Jones

Candidates Tim Flemming and Kelvin King were invited but are unable to attend due to prior commitments.


This forum will follow the same well-established format used throughout the series, including opening statements, moderated questions, and audience-submitted questions that are vetted for relevance and fairness. The goal is to provide a respectful, informative environment where voters can evaluate candidates and their positions on key issues.

“These forums have been incredibly well attended and have provided meaningful opportunities for voters to engage directly with candidates,” said event organizers. “We’re excited to close out the season with two important races that will have a real impact on our community and state.”

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early for the meet-and-greet portion of the evening.
