The man was located by officers “sitting on the curb” in front of WellStar’s Carteresville Surgical facility on East Felton Road near Cloverleaf Drive.

The suspect, later identified as Canton resident Jaimey Shane Swafford, 38, “was threatening to stab himself in the throat,” the incident report states.

A brief standoff with the suspect ensued before Swafford surrendered and was taken into custody. He was transported to Cartersville Medical Center where he was treated for several self-inflicted small cuts to his throat, the report states.

A small black duffel bag police found in the area was checked by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for any bombs or explosives. While the bag did contain stolen narcotics, the GBI determined no bomb was among its contents, Cartersville police said.

Swafford was booked in the Bartow County Jail around 4:45 p.m. Saturday on four counts of aggravated assault, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, possession of hoax device, misdemeanor obstruction of an officer and armed robbery by intimidation/taking control of substance.

He remains held without bond.
