Canton Man Convicted Of Rape, Incest In Cherokee Co.: D.A.

CANTON, GA — A Canton man was recently convicted of multiple charges after being accused of molesting a child relative a year ago, Cherokee County District Attorney Susan Treadaway's office said Monday.

Authorities began investigating Juan Nazario Lopez, 53, on April 16, 2023 after a woman reported her niece being molested by a family member, Treadaway said.

Eleven witnesses testified in the four-day trial against Lopez, and jury deliberations spanned a day and a half, Treadway said.

Lopez was convicted Friday of rape, incest, aggravated child molestation, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes, Treadaway said. He is set to be sentenced on May 8, Treadaway said.
