Evidence at the scene indicated that Helton’s accident occurred on Sunday, Baker added.

According to Tim Cavender with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, Helton was wearing his helmet at the time of the accident.

initial reports indicate that Helton possibly hit a tree limb protruding from the dirt road. It’s unclear how long he had been at the location before he was discovered, Cavender added.
