Canton Man Pleads Guilty To Child Sex Crimes, Sentenced To 20 Years

The 37-year-old man pleaded guilty to sexual battery and child molestation, the Cherokee County District Attorney's Office said.

CANTON — A Canton man was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to child sex crimes, Cherokee County District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway announced in a news release Wednesday.

Treadaway said Jonathan Ricky Millwood, 37, of Canton, pled guilty on Nov. 28 to two counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of aggravated child molestation and one count of child molestation.

Canton Police began investigating Millwood in March, when a young girl "told her mother that Millwood had touched her inappropriately the day before," read the release. Authorities then began collecting evidence, Treadaway said.

Millwood was sentenced to 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole to be followed by life on probation, Treadaway said. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and is forbidden to have contact of any kind with the girl or her family, Treadaway said.

“While there is no sentence that could ever heal the trauma endured by this precious child, we are hopeful that the outcome in this case can provide some closure that will allow the journey of healing to begin,” Treadaway said in the release. “We are thankful that this victim will be surrounded by the support of her mother and other family members as she begins to take the first steps on that journey that will inevitably last a lifetime.”
