Canton Police Continue Search For Missing 16-Year-Old Girl
It's been more than a week since Mayci Olschewske, 16, was last seen at her home on Thursday, Aug. 31.
CANTON, GA -- It's been more than a week since 16-year-old Mayci Olschewske was reported missing, and detectives with the Canton Police Department are still actively searching to bring the teenager home.
Mayci left her Canton home on Thursday, Aug. 31, and investigators remain in daily contact with her family "in order to give them regular updates on leads in this case," the agency said. In an effort to bolster their search, Mayci as well as her vehicle have been entered into the Georgia Crime Information Center system and she's also listed as missing with The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
She, along with her white 2002 Hyundai Santa-Fe bearing Georgia tag WPQ909, have also been entered into the National License Plate Reader database. This allows any law enforcement agency equipped with the reader to receive "immediate notification" if the vehicle's license plate comes across their radar (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Of course, investigators routinely check the 16-year-old's cell phone and social media accounts or any activity. Additionally, these Canton detectives are working to obtain records that would show cell phone and social media activity that took place before she left home. They've also reached out to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigations for help in locating Mayci.
Mayci, who police say has run away from home before, has been captured on surveillance cameras at a convenience store and local ATM that show her during the moments after she left home.

"To this point, no phone or credit cards -- other than the debit card used to withdraw money at a locate ATM on the morning Mayci left -- have been used that are associated with the runaway teen," Canton police said. "We have been in contact with Mayci’s friends in order to obtain important information about what she may have relayed to them before she left home and any facts they have that will help us locate her."
Readers should note Mayci's vehicle has some front-end damage and its steering wheel is possibly decorated with a crocheted rainbow-colored cover, according to a flier shared by the agency.

Mayci is described as a white female about 5 feet, 5 inches tall. She weighs around 133 pounds, has green eyes and blonde hair. The flier also indicates Mayci took blankets, pillows and other personal belongings. It was initially reported that Mayci could be traveling to Paulding County, but police also note she has ties to Florida and are working on those leads.
