Canton Police Officer Prevents Suicide

A man was in his car attempting to hang himself, and a Canton police officer, who found the man, broke the window and saved his life.

CANTON, GA -- A Canton police officer stopped a man from committing suicide Sunday night in the parking lot of the Canton Market Place shopping center. Canton police had been notified that night of the man and his suicidal thoughts.

Around 7:00 p.m., Canton police were notified of the man, and were told he was suicidal and armed. A look out for the man was issued. Officer Jonathan Nelson of the Canton Police Department was the one who spotted the man in his vehicle.

"Officer Nelson looked inside the vehicle and observed the male actively trying to hang himself with a makeshift noose," according to the Canton Police blog. Nelson reported the man appeared blue in color and was not breathing. After several attempts, Officer Nelson broke the window and loosened the makeshift noose.
