Canton Police See Spike In Identity Fraud Reports
The Canton Police Department has received at least 10 reports in the last day from residents reporting fraudulent purchases.

CANTON, GA — Residents in and around Canton are advised to give extra scrutiny to their banking and credit card statements, as several reports of identity fraud have been reported to the Canton Police Department.
As of Monday, Canton officers have taken 10 reports in the last 24 hours of residents stating their information was used at different ATMs around the metro Atlanta area, said Police Chief Mark Mitchell.
Mitchell said Canton investigators are working to turn the information over to the appropriate jurisdictions "in an effort to identify suspect(s) in these cases."

At least one resident said she had $400 stolen from her account after she used her debit card at gas stations in Canton and Hickory Flat, according to her Facebook page. Another resident told Patch her neighbors have reported charges from their debit cards appearing at places as far as College Park and the Camp Creek Parkway area. She noted it's possible their PINs were obtained from recent purchases made at local gas stations.

Chief Mitchell said anyone who detects fraudulent activity on their accounts should call 911 to file an incident report.
