Canton Teen Charged With Burglary

The 15-year-old was located by a police K-9 in a wooded area near the business he allegedly targeted.

CANTON, GA -- A 15-year-old juvenile has been charged in connection to a burglary reported overnight Thursday in Canton.

Officers with the Canton Police Department were dispatched around 12:53 a.m. April 13 to a call at Gabby's Wireless at 301 Marietta Road.

Officers arrived on the scene and noticed a side window at the establishment had been broken into, the agency said.

Officers canvassing the premises observed "fresh footprints" in the grass leading from the window to a wooded area behind the business, according to the department. A perimeter was set up to prevent any possible subjects from leaving the area, and Canton called in a K-9 with the Roswell Police Department to assist with the search of those responsible for the incident.

Moments later, the juvenile was located a short distance from the business and was taken into custody. Canton police note all of the merchandise allegedly stolen from the business was located in the area where the suspect was discovered.

"Our officers very quick response, action and teamwork were vital to bringing this crime to a safe and successful resolution," said Police Chief Mark Mitchell. "We are dedicated to not only engaging with those we serve but also proactively suppressing this type of activity in our great community. We would like to thank the Roswell Police Department and their K-9 officer for their support and assistance in this incident."
