The city of Canton has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Award.

Nathan Ingram, Canton’s chief financial officer, was presented with the award, which commends the city for its comprehensive annual financial report, or CAFR.
The certificate is the highest form of achievement in the area of governmental accounting an entity can receive, and “its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” GFOA said.

“The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and groups to read the CAFR,” the group added.
