CCSD Employees Keep Busy During Summer Break

Many school district departments used the nine weeks off to prepare for the first day of the 2018-19 school year.

CANTON, GA — The Cherokee County School District's summer break doesn't mean days off and down time for all its employees.

These nine weeks are prime work time for many departments, which started preparing for the next school year as soon as the last school bell rang in May.

A few of the milestones reached this summer in preparation for 2018-19:

Curriculum & Instruction/School Operations: served more than 1,300 students in summer school programs across grades K-12.

Maintenance: closed out more than 1,300 work orders during June and July.

School Nutrition: served more than 55,000 USDA-sponsored meals through its Seamless Summer feeding program.

Professional Development: provided training for almost 1,100 teachers on four scheduled development days. Holding these trainings during the summer saved more than $150,000 in substitute costs had teachers needed to leave their classrooms for training during the school year.

Transportation: held inspections for more than 450 buses, earning permits to carry thousands of students to school and back.
