CCSD Media Specialist Of The Year Wins State Title

Jennifer Lewis of Indian Knoll Elementary School was named the Georgia Library Media Specialist of the Year.

CANTON, GA — For the second time in as many years, a Cherokee County School District educator has been named the Georgia Library Media Specialist of the Year.

Jennifer Lewis, the media specialist at Indian Knoll Elementary School, was awarded the state title in a suprise presentation made on Monday at the Georgia Library Media Association’s Summer Institute in Peachtree City.

"Congratulations to Jennifer on a much-deserved recognition from her peers," said CCSD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Hightower. "We are so proud for her, for our district, and for Indian Knoll Elementary School to know her talents and skills as a media specialist are recognized as the best in the state."

In 2017, Cherokee High School's Anne Nechvatal was named the district's Media Specialist of the Year, and she also went on to win the statewide honor.

Lewis was recognized in March as the district's Media Specialist of the Year. She received a plaque, an Amazon Kindle and a celebratory cake, compliments of sponsor Credit Union of Georgia. Lewis was also presented flowers by her husband, Mark, and son, Caleb, (their daughter, Katherine, was competing at a high school tennis match and could not attend), and her parents, Theresa and Gary Wallpe.

In April, she was named the North Central Georgia Regional Library Media Specialist of the Year for 2018. which placed her in the running for the statewide award.
