Celebration of Life For Quentin Moses Set For Feb. 15

WALESKA, GA -- Reinhardt University will celebrate the life of Coach Quentin Moses this week on its campus in Waleska.

The public is invited to celebrate Moses' life at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 in the Brown Athletic Center gymnasium. Provost Mark Roberts announced that all classes will be cancelled at 1 p.m., allowing students to attend. Classes will resume at 2 p.m.

The service will include words from the Rev. Tim Emmett, pastor of Waleska United Methodist Church, scripture readings by RU football players and music by the Reinhardt University Chamber Singers.

Reinhardt President Dr. Kina S. Mallard will give the eulogy, and the Rev. C.R. Hill Jr. will read a poem he wrote in memory of Moses.

To honor is life and the work he did at Reinhardt, the University Leadership Team is establishing the Quentin O. Moses Endowed Scholarship to benefit student-athletes at Reinhardt University.

“Coach Q,” as he was affectionately known on and off the field, inspired many young players to do their best on the gridiron and in the classroom. He was known for his infectious personality that would lift event the bluest of spirits.

“He meant a lot to these kids and he meant a lot to our staff,” Reinhardt head football coach James Miller. “But we will remember Coach Moses for all the positive that he did. We’ll remember his infectious smile and his consistent belief in second chances.”

Moses died in a house fire Feb. 12, along with his girlfriend, Andria Godard and her 10-year-old daughter, Jasmine.

The Monroe Fire and the Walton County Fire Rescue departments responded around 6:05 a.m. Feb. 12 to a fire at a home on Shamrock Drive in the city, which is about 30 miles from Athens.

Firefighters arrived on the scene to discover the residence was "fully engulfed," Monroe fire said on its Facebook page.

Crews found Moses unconscious and moved him outside to perform CPR. He was transported to Clearview Medical Center where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Firefighters also recovered the body of the mother and child.

Moses was a high school and University of Georgia football stand-out. He was selected No. 65 overall in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. He then joined the Arizona Cardinals, but it was his time with the Miami Dolphins that gained him the most notoriety.

Following his NFL career, Moses returned to Georgia and began coaching for Reinhardt’s new football program. He was in his fifth year as the Reinhardt Eagles’ football team defensive line coach. In 2016, Moses coached two first team all-conference performers: Tevin McCoy and Javi Dyer (2015 Mid-South West Co-Defensive Player of the Year). His group also totaled 139 tackles for loss and were ranked second in the nation with total sacks (46).

During his tenure at UGA, Moses received a litany of accolades, including All-SEC First Team honors, several SEC defensive player of the week awards and Walter Camp Second-Team All-American status, among other awards.

“Obviously our entire program is reeling from this tragic news,” said Reinhardt Athletic Director Bill Popp. “Our biggest concern is to do anything we can to support Quentin’s family and to provide support and counseling for our student-athletes.”
