Charter Bands Compete at Southern Star Music Festival
Cherokee Charter Academy earned overall Silver ratings at the Southern Star Music Festival in Austell, Georgia.
Participating Cherokee Charter Academy groups were the Sixth Grade Concert Band and the Seventh & Eighth Grade Symphonic Band, both under the direction of Mrs. Valerie Boehm. CCA competed against more than twenty other instrumental groups including well-established bands from The Lovett School, Forsyth County, White County, as well as out of state ensembles. The prestigious festival is held annually for Choral, Jazz, and Band divisions. Judges score ensembles on different categories and give an overall rating of blue, bronze, silver or gold.
The band program at Cherokee Charter Academy has grown tremendously since the school opened 4 years ago. It started with a few students in 5th-7th grade in 2011-2012. These first students met after school for an hour just once a week. Since then, the program has gone full-time with three band classes meeting daily.
