Hospital patients and staff completed an eight-hour transition May 6 from its old facility to the new building.

CANTON, GA -- Things are running smoothly at Northside Hospital Cherokee after its staff embarked on a historic transition from its old facility to the new institution.

The eight-hour move of patients and staff from the old facility on Hospital Road in Canton to the new building located off S.R. 20/Cumming Highway near I-575 kicked off before daybreak Saturday, May 6.

Marking the official opening of the hospital, the facility’s Emergency Department sign was unveiled at 5 a.m. At that time, hospital staff began transitioning current patients to and accepting new patients at the new facility. Patients were transported to the new hospital via ambulance and monitored by paramedic teams during transit.

Just hours after the doors officially opened, the first baby was born at Northside Hospital Cherokee. This is one of many firsts that staff at Northside Hospital Cherokee have been eagerly anticipating since planning for the facility began 12 years ago.

The Northside Hospital Cherokee replacement campus includes the hospital, a medical office building that opened in early January, and more than 1,650 parking spaces on a 50-acre complex – just a part of 300 total acres set aside. The new hospital will open with 105 inpatient beds and more than twice the square footage as the current hospital.
