Cherokee Adult Detention Center Earns National Accreditation
The American Correctional Association establishes the standards for all aspects on jail facilities, employee performance, and policies.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has announced their Adult Detention Center was awarded accreditation by the American Correctional Association (ACA) this past weekend in Boston, Massachusetts.
The sheriff's office embarked on the extensive ACA accreditation process in November 2017. The ACA establishes the highest standards for all aspects on jail facilities, employee performance, and on policies and procedures.
There are several benefits to obtaining ACA accreditation. It ensures that best practices in the Adult Detention Center are being followed, it creates a safer environment for employees and inmates, it can reduce insurance premiums for the agency, and it improves staff morale and professionalism.

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office was first nationally accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in 1996. The agency's detention medical unit was nationally accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) in 2004. The latest ACA accreditation was the final step for the agency to reach "Triple Crown" status which will be awarded by the National Sheriff's Association to the sheriff's office in coming weeks.
"I am very pleased our detention center was awarded ACA accreditation and want to thank all the employees who worked very hard to make this happen," stated Sheriff Frank Reynolds.
