Cherokee Charter Academy's Fourth and Fifth Grade Choir Members Perform in Nashville
By: Lainey Blase 5th Grade
As the Christmas holidays approach, many cities and towns across America hold tree lightings and parades. One of the more prominent parades is the Nashville Christmas parade.
The history of the parade goes back 90 years to the first edition on November 28, 1927. The parade proceeds have historically benefited Share the Warmth, a program that helps low-income families with their energy bills. Since 2003, the Piedmont Natural Gas Foundation has donated $2.8 million to the program.

On Friday, Dec 1st, the CCA fourth and fifth grade choir members traveled to Nashville to participate in the illustrious Nashville Christmas Parade. When the bus arrived, the CCA students rehearsed with 800 other elementary, middle, and high school choir members from around the southeast.
For many students, this was their first performance; not to mention, it was their first time performing in front of thousands of people, who lined the streets for the parade. “The choir did a fantastic job singing and dancing in front of thousands of people at the Nashville Christmas Parade. I was extremely impressed by the amount of enthusiasm the choir displayed throughout the entire performance!” exalted Mrs. Kinney. Elizabeth Hebert, a fifth grade student, also expressed her experience. “This is my first year in choir, and I wasn’t expecting to go and be involved in this type of event. It is so fun and exciting to have people cheering for you!”

And those cheers were voluminous, as there was an estimated 50,000 parade-goers that lined the streets of Nashville! When asked if they would be returning, Mrs. Kinney responded by saying, “Yes, of course. If they invite us again next year, we will go back. It was such a great experience for our choir members and the school as a whole!”
Maybe next year the choir may actually get to perform with one of the many celebrities who participated! Way to go Tigers Choir!
